Magnesia Alumina Castables Introduction

Magnesia alumina castables, also known as ladle castables, is a kind of monolithic material widely used as ladle lining refractories. Magnesia alumina refractory castables, selecting high alumina bauxite together with sintered magnesium as aggregates and calcium aluminate cement as binders, has exhibited superior spalling resistance, corrosion resistance as well as high temperature strength in ladle use. The reasons are that Al2O3 react with MgO and formed MgO·Al2O3 phase under high temperature. MgO·Al2O3 phase materials has the characteristics of low thermal conductivity, minimal expansion rate and superior volume stability under high temperature. Moreover, pure magnesia alumina spinel phase doesn't hydrate with water, which extensively increased the strength of magnesia alumina castables.
